How much road tax (cukai jalan) and car insurance you will pay on a recond Alphard, Harrier, BMW or Civic, with the Peninsular Malaysia rate table.

Road tax: based on engine size
Road tax for a privately owned petrol car in Peninsular Malaysia depends on engine capacity (cc):

Insurance: based on the car's value
Comprehensive insurance is priced on the sum insured (the car's market value), plus your age, location and claims history.
- A rough starting point is 2.5% to 3.5% of the sum insured before discounts.
- Your No Claim Discount (NCD) can cut the premium by up to 55%.
For a RM 200,000 recond SUV that is roughly RM 5,000 to RM 7,000 before NCD, or about RM 2,250 to RM 3,150 with 55% NCD.
Transferring your NCD
NCD belongs to you, not the car. When you buy a recond car you can transfer the NCD from your current car. Ask us and we will arrange it with the insurer.

- Road tax: about RM 874

Frequently asked questions
How much is road tax for a 2.5 litre Alphard?
Using the Peninsular Malaysia rates for a petrol private car, a 2,494 cc engine costs about RM 874 a year. A 3.5 litre costs several thousand ringgit, which is why most buyers choose the 2.5.
Is road tax cheaper in Sabah and Sarawak?
Yes. Rates in Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and Langkawi are lower than in Peninsular Malaysia. Check the JPJ calculator for the exact amount.
Can I transfer my NCD to a recond car?
Yes. Your No Claim Discount belongs to you, not the car. You can transfer it from your current car to the new one when you sell or change the old car's insurance.
